The Supra chair, designed in collaboration with Ondarreta, is the result of an unexpected discovery during the design process. We set out to create a chair with clean lines and a refined silhouette, but an unexpected turn occurred in the manufacturing phase. During the plastic injection process, we noticed an irregularity that gave the chair’s shell a captivating translucent quality.
Rather than seeing this as a flaw, we saw potential in the material’s newfound transparency. We decided to embrace this unexpected effect, dedicating our efforts to understanding and refining the process to make it a central feature of the design. The result is a chair that subtly balances between solid and transparent, adding depth and intrigue to its form.
The Supra chair’s overlapping backrest and translucent shell came to embody the unpredictability and creativity that can emerge in the design process. It’s a piece that evolved through exploration and adaptation, showing how embracing the unexpected can lead to something truly distinctive. This journey reflects our commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and finding beauty in the unplanned.
