Porta Pelagus Water Tower

Porta Pelagus is our proposal for the new water tower of Värmdö municipality. As its name suggests, Porta Pelagus serves as a gateway marking the transition from the mainland to the archipelago, linking the city with the nearby sea. Its strong arches stretch upward, connecting sky and ground. The water tower’s clear structure combines distinct geometries, creating a complex yet robust gate-like shape. The design, inspired by a raised vessel held by two pillars with characteristic arches, references wave dynamics. Oriented east-west, it captures the morning sun’s rays and is accentuated by the sun’s movement throughout the day, silhouetting against the evening sun.
