The concept behind Formations speaks to both the history and architecture of the building where the installation was showcased, Circle Filologico. As one of the oldest centres for the research and study of languages, Circolo Filologico creates a forum to celebrate the endless potentials of design language through exploring the creative possibilities of the new co-designed iQ Surface and shifting of preconceptions about the usage of vinyl. Seeing it as a design material with its own identity, we dressed the different spaces of the building in unexpected ways in order to spark curiosity and In light of the contrast between modernity and tradition, Formations subverts notions of scale by playfully distorting architectural archetypes and reinterpreting them with a contemporary twist.
The installation was also up-cycled and showcased again in a smaller scale at Habitare in Helsinki 2019.
