Cloudy Outlines
Custom kitchen and handles in Douglas fir.
Situated in a historic building from 1894, the interior of this downtown Stockholm apartment had been stripped of its original details and traces of craftsmanship, leaving an inefficient floor plan behind. A functional rethink was required as we decided to take down all the walls and start from scratch, allowing a well-organised floor plan, simplified passages and maximal access to the windows.
With the previous interior and finishes removed, a new holistic design was developed with just a few design principles — all with a timeless ambition. The walls were painted light and saturated, complemented by warmth from solid Douglas fir planks used exclusively for floors, window sills, doors and custom joinery. Crowning each room, a custom ceiling stucco was designed to give each space a cloudy outline, contrasting with the overall rationality and material robustness. An expression inspired by the exterior window framing, and just another small gesture with a big impact.
